What Is Gastroenteritis?

Gastroenteritis is when your stomach and intestines become inflamed. Certain intestinal parasites stick to the lining of your intestines. This can be caused by a virus or anything contaminated with parasites or bacteria. It could also be a side effect from a medication. Gastroenteritis is an illness that you can completely recover from if you take care of yourself the right way. Although there is no treatment, you can prevent it.

What Causes Gastroenteritis?

Gastroenteritis is mainly caused by a viral infection. Anything that you consume that has been contaminated with bacteria or parasites, like food or water, will trigger this disease. Or you can get this by someone who has already had this and has touched you, kissed you, you have shared food with, you have shared a drink with, etc.

What are the symptoms in Gastroenteritis?

There are many symptoms to Gastroenteritis. Some consist of diarrhea and vomiting, headaches fevers, abdominal cramps, bloating, aching muscle, feeling exhausted or a fever. Your intestines may be swollen because they are filled with gas. Mostly these symptoms will last about 2 or 3 days but some severe ones can last up to a week. Too much vomiting or diarrhea can cause dehydration. You have to be sure to intake a lot of fluids so that your body can still have some nourishment in your system.

How is Gastroenteritis Diagnosed?

Doctors will identify Gastroenteritis by looking at the symptoms along with a medical examination, which can include taking a stool sample.
By you physician combing the test ran and your symptoms, he should be able to evaluate everything and diagnose you with the illness.

How Is Gastroenteritis Treated?

Gastroenteritis will naturally go away on its own. It does not have a specific cure, but there are some things you can do to treat it symptoms. Flushing your body with fluids will help to flush the bacteria out of your system and will also keep you hydrated. Dehydration is a major factor in this illness if you do not pump fluids constantly. You must also get plenty of rest. This helps to strengthen your body also. Easing your way back to eating certain foods is also important. Always start off with bland foods, like rice oatmeal, crackers, bananas. This will help to keep your stomach more calm then eating pizza, tacos, fast foods, etc.

What Foods Can Trigger Gastroenteritis?

Any type of food or water that has been contaminated with bacteria or parasites can trigger Gastroenteritis. Anything that was consumed that was raw, like certain seafood's, will cause Gastroenteritis.

What Triggers Gastroenteritis?

Like a virus, Gastroenteritis is triggered by the sharing of utensil of someone who has it, kissing someone who has it, or sharing drinks with someone who has.

It is also triggered by consuming anything that has been contaminated with bacteria and parasites.
